New York Mets MVP candidate No. 2: Brandon Nimmo, CF

Sure it’s early, but the Mets deciding to pay the price to bring back Brandon Nimmo is certainly looking like one of the wisest investments that Steve Cohen made this offseason.

The 30-year-old Nimmo looks to be in the prime of his career, starting the 2023 season by leading the Mets with a .368 batting average through his first 68 at-bats of the campaign. With an OPS of .988 and strikeouts in just eight of those 68 at-bats, it’s clear that the Mets have exactly who they need at the top of the order to kickstart the offense.

Just how hot has Nimmo been at the plate in recent games? Entering play on April 21, Nimmo had had multiple-hit games in six of his last eight contests. That includes a streak where he went 11-for-19 over his last games … and that includes an 0-for-4 performance mixed in there as well.

On a team full of superstars, there are times when Nimmo’s contributions may go overlooked. However, there’s no question that he has been one of the biggest sources of offense for the Mets so far this season.
