Georgia QB battle: Carson Beck over Brett Vandagriff

Kirby Smart also insisted his quarterbacks will keep competing for the starting job going into fall camp even though it’s pretty clear that one has the edge over the rest.

We’re talking Carson Beck.

The Dawgs had their Spring Game on Apr. 15 with Beck battling against Brock Vandagriff and Gunner Stockton to show coaches and fans who is most fit to replace Stetson Bennett behind center.

Beck was 18-of-22 for 231 yards and a touchdown in a performance that seemed to solidify his place atop the depth chart.

Vandagriff is a talent and he showed that in flashes in the Spring Game but his 13-of-25 statline with 175 yards, a touchdown and an interception shows that he still has developing to do. And it looks like he’s willing to do that developing in Athens, reportedly spurning the call of the transfer portal.

Beck was praised throughout the spring for his understanding of the offense, his decision-making and leadership. The competition may continue into fall camp but it’s very clearly his to lose.
