3 moves Packers should make to kickstart Jordan Love era, No. 2: Draft Darnell Washington

The best way to help out a young quarterback getting the start at quarterback is to give them a security blanket. What does that mean? Give them a tight end to target downfield for easy 10-plus yard gains. It is pivotal that the Packers provide him one.

Luckily this year, this year’s tight end class is deep. While it would be ideal for the team to get the top option as early as possible, the Packers have the luxury to wait until later on in Day 2 to do so. There is one prospect who has been dubbed a “unicorn,” and that’s Georgia Bulldogs tight end Darnell Washington.

Washington is a gigantic prospect, standing at 6-foot-7 and weighing in at 267 pounds, but he is extremely athletic. He didn’t get much time to highlight his skill set, due in part to dealing with injuries and playing alongside stud tight end Brock Bowers. But, once he caught the football, he was nearly impossible to bring down. Not to mention, he can hurdle defenders like nothing. Oh, and he’s a good blocker.

This past season, Washington caught 28 passes for 454 yards and two touchdowns in 15 games played.

Giving Love a tight end like Washington would be such a smart move for the Packers. Give it some time, and Washington could be the next great NFL tight end.
