3 moves Packers should make to kickstart Jordan Love era, No. 1: Draft Jaxon Smith-Njigba with first-round pick
The Packers have the chance to really stick it to Rodgers, albeit unintentionally. Throughout his tenure as Green Bay’s quarterback, the team never used a first-round pick on a wide receiver. Looking at their wide receiver depth chart, they need to add a star to it. We’ve already given them a veteran in T.Y. Hilton. Now, they should take the No. 13 pick they received from the Jets and pick one of the top wide receiver prospects in the NFL Draft — Ohio State’s Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
In the 2021 season, Smith-Njigba really set himself up to be one of the top receivers in the 2023 draft class. Take a look at the Rose Bowl game that year, where he caught 15 passes from C.J. Stroud for 347 yards and three touchdowns in the 48-45 win. This past season, however, he was limited to just three games due to a hamstring injury.
While the wide receiver class has become criticized as of late, Smith-Njigba’s route-running has helped him get into consideration to be the top wide receiver taken off the board. Giving Love a slot receiver like Smith-Njigba could be extremely beneficial for them.
