First-round mistakes the Houston Texans must avoid in 2023 NFL Draft: Drafting Devon Witherspoon or Paris Johnson Jr. at No. 2

For about a week now, we have had the chance to digest and react to Adam Schefter’s report stating that he doesn’t believe there will be a quarterback taken at the number 2 or number 3 picks.

That would mean the second quarterback off the board will come at no. 4 to the Indianapolis Colts. So, what does that mean for the Texans at number 2, should they refuse to draft a quarterback? Well, according to senior NFL reporter Albert Breer, the Texans’ second overall pick could end up being quite shocking.

Look, we have already established what the ideal first round looks like for Houston. For them to completely throw away any and all possibility of selecting Stroud, along with Smith-Njigba, to select either Paris Johnson Jr. or Devon Witherspoon, would be asinine.

That’s not a knock against Johnson or Witherspoon, either, because both of them are excellent players and deserve a top-10 look. But, neither one of them could change a franchise like Stroud can.

This only reiterates a potentially-catastrophic mistake we began with. Take Stroud, and move on.
