Strangest Miami Dolphins of all time: 2. Cris Carter

Cris Carter clearly had two very different eras in his career. He had his time with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he was clearly talented but incredibly flawed. When he was basically kicked out of the City of Brotherly Love, Carter was humbled as he went to Minnesota. With the Vikings, he built a Hall of Fame career.

Carter played 188 games with the Vikings, catching 1,004 passes, with 110 touchdowns. With the Vikings, he led the league in touchdowns three times. It was an incredible career, but he was looking for one last chapter.

He signed with the Dolphins in the middle of the 2002 season. It was odd from the start. Apparently, he was looking for teams to sign with while working with HBO’s Inside the NFL. The Dolphins were 5-2 at the time of the signing, and they were looking for depth as they wanted to make a playoff run. It was a three-team race in the AFC East, with the reigning champion New England Patriots struggling early and the New York Jets looking to make a push. With receivers Chris Chambers and Oronde Gadsden both on the shelf at the time, the Dolphins needed a boost at the position.

Carter was not very effective. He only caught eight balls in five games. It didn’t work, and Carter was back in the broadcast booth the next year.
