1. What will this year’s Sparks’ identity be?

During Miller’s time in Connecticut, he famously ran lineups including a lot of size that focused on suffocating offenses and pounding defenses inside. This current roster does not have the players present to replicate that style.

This roster also has much less star power than his previous rosters did. Yes, Nneka Ogwumike is still here, but who will be her co-star? Azurá Stevens is getting paid like one and is considered most likely to fill that role, but is unproven at that level. From there, no one else brings a skill set well-rounded enough to be the number two.

That said, Miller has spoken multiple times about the types of players he wants. His comments have solely referred to player personalities and work ethics. Those only go so far on the court, but they’re still valuable. Chemistry goes a long way for a team without a steep hierarchy.

There are also some fascinating potential lineups that could become staples of this team. The roster features length, switchability, and a level of unpredictability that could be used to their advantage. Miller could go with athleticism and length and attempt to swarm opponents on defense and live in transition. He could go smaller, with a bit more shooting and a ton of player movement to open up driving lanes. The possibilities feel endless.

The cuts Miller makes as he forms the roster to his liking will be interesting. What he schemes up for his final roster will likely be something unlike he’s ever shown before.
