MLB Rumors: Lance Lynn gets apology from White Sox radio host over fat-shaming comment

It’s been an abysmal start to the year for the Chicago White Sox just all around. On Friday night, a 3-2 loss on the Southside to the Rays dropped the club to a dismal 7-20 on the year. In just about every way imaginable to this point, Chicago has been a major letdown, even if there weren’t sky-high expectations entering the year.

Naturally, this has caused fans to have a highly negative view of this team. But one radio host, Steve Stone, took it too far.

During a segment this past week discussing the White Sox and, specifically, veteran pitcher Lance Lynn, Stone said that he wondered if Lynn was struggling “cardiovascularly” with the pitch clock before suggesting “maybe a couple of salads could help” the right-hander.

Fat-shaming is never the answer and, whether by his own volition or with urging from his superiors and White Sox fans, Stone issued an apology on Saturday for his unacceptable comments, noting that he also apologized to Lynn personal and indicating the two were on good terms.

That apology was much-deserved but the entire situation speaks to how tough April has been for the White Sox. It’s rare you see local radio hosts so angry that they cross lines as Stone did in this instance, but a 7-20 start has a way of bringing out the worst in fans — you know, since the White Sox are bringing out the worst in themselves on the field this season.
