NFL Rumors: Jim Irsay trying too hard to justify Anthony Richardson pick

One of the more amusing storylines of the 2023 NFL Draft is how Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay has used social media. You wouldn’t think a Boomer like him would be so active online, but he’s become something of a regular Tweeter, throwing fans for a loop with his enigmatic phrases and confounding sentences.

Prior to Day 1 of the draft, Irsay tweeted about all the options the Colts had with the No. 4 overall pick. Literally, all the options. He then proposed a crazy idea of taking Will Levis on Day 2 even though the franchise already drafted Anthony Richardson. Thankfully for Colts fans, that didn’t end up happening.

What’s Irsay rambling about now? The unhinged franchise owner told the media that even if Indy held the first pick in the draft, he would still have picked Richardson.

It’s not the zaniest thing to come out of Irsay’s mouth, yet….why? Why does Irsay feel the need to justify the team’s fourth overall pick?

Richardson entered the draft as one of the top quarterback prospects in his class, though most agreed he ranked below peers Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud, both of whom were taken before the Florida QB.

As the owner of the franchise, Irsay may just be placing his absolute faith in who he views to be the Colts’ franchise quarterback, hoping to bulldoze a smoother path for Richardson to turn into a consistent starter in Year 1.

That’s nice and all, but one can’t shake the feeling that Irsay is slowly veering off the rails this offseason and that all his spoken words are those of a madman. At least the Colts will never be boring with Irsay as the owner? Another year of chaos awaits.
