Chiefs draft grades: Texas DT Keondre Coburn

Round 6, Pick 194

After failing to take a defensive tackle earlier in the draft, the Chiefs addressed the position late with Keondre Coburn of Texas.

At 6-foot-2, 332 pounds, Coburn certain has the size to fit in at nose tackle and his skill set suggests he could be a solid space filler at worst as a pro.

He made 45 starts for the Longhorns but he never had more than 2.5 sacks in a season. That’s not to say he couldn’t be disruptive. He had four tackles for loss and two forced fumbles as a senior.

KC might have found bigger upside at the position, if they’d invested sooner but getting Coburn in the sixth is a positive.

Grade: B+

Chiefs draft grades: Ball State CB Nic Jones

The Chiefs final pick was Nic Jones, the 6-foot, 189-pound cornerback out of Ball State.

Jones is an aggressive press corner who had 23 tackles, two interceptions and 12 pass defenses in 2022. It was a standout season for a player who had struggled to get on the field and then stay healthy during the earlier phase of his career.

Realistically, Jones has the chance to make an impact on special teams while proving to Kansas City that he warrants playing time at cornerback. As a seventh round pick, the risk wasn’t all that much.

Grade: B
