Early 2024 NFL Draft mock draft: Vikings replace Kirk Cousins, Steelers keep improving O-line

Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. OT. BYU. Kingsley Suamataia. 17. player. 55

Yes, the Steelers took Broderick Jones in the first round of the 2023 draft after trading up. No, that shouldn’t be their last offensive line move. I remain unsold on Chuks Okorafor as the long-term option at tackle and Pittsburgh could ultimately replace him with Kingsley Suamataia.

A right tackle prospect who transferred to BYU from Oregon as a former 5-star recruit, Suamataia is a big 315-pound body with more than enough strength to back that up. He has nice footwork right now and the Steelers could be absolutely set if they move on from Okorafor, slide Jones to the left and then pair him with Suamataia.

Washington. 18. 60. Pick Analysis. QB. Michael Penix Jr.. player. Scouting Report

I’m starting to get the impression that not even the Minnesota Vikings know what their plan is at quarterback given what they’ve been saying about Kirk Cousins and the possibility of extending him for 2024. However, replacing him is the highest-upside option and Michael Penix Jr. could be a phenomenal option.

A history of ACL injuries will raise some red flags, but Penix is still an athletic passer with a monster arm. He also made great strides this past year after transferring to Washington from Indiana and could easily be a first-round quarterback well worth taking.

WR. 10. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 19. player. Texas. Xavier Worthy

Pick via Browns

It’s still hard to fathom how the Texans didn’t try to trade the pick owed to them by the Browns rather than their own to move up from No. 12 to 3, but here we are. And luckily for C.J. Stroud, they have the chance here to add the pass-catcher they desperately need in Xavier Worthy.

Worthy broke out as a freshman at Texas but, amid quarterback injuries and a Bijan Robinson-centric offense a year ago, his numbers took a step back. The talent has already been shown and, with a more pass-happy approach on deck for the 2023 season, the Longhorns receiver should shoot into high-end draft consideration.

Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. DL. player. 15. Illinois. Jer'Zhan Newton. 20

Sure, the Saints just took a high-upside interior defensive line prospect in the first round of the 2023 draft in Bryan Bresee. This is also a team that has never been shy about double-dipping if it means grabbing a good player and, with the D-line still needing to be replenished, there’s no chance they’d pass on Jer’Zhan Newton.

Newton is a monster with his ability to penetrate on the interior, especially as a pass-rusher, as he registered 59 pressures a season ago. That’s a huge asset, especially alongside Bresee as New Orleans tries to rebuild the trenches on defense.
