The injury bug continued to hit the New York Yankees, as Harrison Bader left Wednesday’s game following a collision in the outfield.

The New York Yankees are getting hit hard by injuries thus far into the season, with big name players like Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Carlos Rodon all sidelined. Sitting in last place in the AL East with a 16-15 record, general manager Brian Cashman implored of the Yankees fanbase “don’t give up on us,” while stressing how many injuries the team has. Well, things got even worse just hours after Cashman’s met with the media.

In the top of the ninth inning, manager Aaron Boone brought in reliever Clay Holmes to try and hold back the Cleveland Guardians and maintain a 2-2 tie. After surrendering a double to Myles Straw, Holmes watched as Jose Ramirez hit a bloop single to left field. During that sequence, outfielder Harrison Bader dove head first to make the catch, but was cut off by a sliding Isiah Kiner-Falefa. That caused Bader to collide head first with Kiner-Falefa, and appeared to be shaken up afterwards. He was removed from the game.

Bader left with an apparent injury just one day after being activated from the injured list. But, things only got worse for the Yankees in terms of injuries.

Yankees injury woes continue with Harrison Bader, Oswald Peraza exiting vs. Guardians

In the bottom of the ninth inning, first baseman Anthony Rizzo recorded a single and Oswald Peraza entered to pinch run for him. But Peraza stumbled on his way to second base and twisted his ankle when touching the bag. After trying to run and getting checked out by the team’s training staff, Peraza left.

To show how limited the bench was for the Yankees, they had Aaron Hicks enter as a pinch runner for Peraza, with catcher Jose Trevino being the lone remaining player to enter in the link.

Speaking of Trevino, he hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Yankees the 4-3 win.

Bader had missed the start of the season due to a left oblique strain. As mentioned earlier, he had just made his regular-season debut on Tuesday night.

As for Peraza, he had been a depth infielder for the team after Anthony Volpe beat him for the starting shortstop job in spring training.

The Yankees may have officially clinched the series against the Guardians, but they will now be waiting to hear word on the statuses of both Bader and Peraza, as they prepare for a pivotal series against the first-place Tampa Bay Rays this weekend.
