NBA rumors: Dillon Brooks could work for the Mavericks

The Mavericks are reportedly interested in re-signing Irving, despite the disastrous end to their season after trading for him. But according to an anonymous GM who spoke with Sean Deveney of Heavy.com, they could chase Brooks too: “Dallas, he is the kind of guy they are desperate for. Teams like that have to make a call on a guy like him.”

Deveney’s GM also mentioned the Heat, Cavs and Suns as possible landing spots for Brooks. To be clear though, he doesn’t represent any of those teams and was speaking on his assessment of their team needs and previous free agency approaches, not any specific information.

It’s true that the Mavericks could use some 3-and-D versatility around Luka Doncic but, again, Brooks provides way more D than 3. Over the past four seasons, he’s shot 33.8 percent from beyond the arc on over 1,300 attempts. At this point in his career, we can be reasonably certain he’s a below-average outside shooter with an unfounded enthusiasm for hoisting those shots up.
