Steelers rumors: Kendrick Green is on the outs

The Steelers could cut Kendrick Green relatively easily, and not blink an eye. He would cost less than $1 million against the cap if he is let go prior to June. Yes, that’s right around the corner.

Pittsburgh didn’t address left guard during the draft, which is Green’s primary position. However, by drafting Broderick Jones, the left side of the offensive line is getting crowded. Isaac Seumalo and Kevin Dotson are in front of Green on the depth chart at left guard to start mini camp, meaning it would be an uphill climb for Green, a player who struggled in the playing time he did receive last season.

A fresh start could do Green wonders, as another team may be able to unlock the potential Pittsburgh has struggled to turn into production. The Steelers tried Green at center in 2021, followed by guard last year. However, he was unable to even beat out Dotson in training camp.

“Fast forward to this offseason and the Steelers have signed a pair of very good free-agent guards. This puts Green’s status in serious jeopardy. If the Steelers released Green with a post-June 1 designation, the team would save $1.1 million in salary cap space,” Curt Popejoy of Steelers Wire wrote.

That alone is worth the roster cut for Pittsburgh.
