In today’s MLB rumors roundup, we look at the Braves plan at shortstop, some talk of Yankees prospect call-ups, and a possible Cards trade.

Another day, and more news and rumors for fans to pore over. Today’s MLB rumors roundup focuses on an Astros injury, some whispers of a Yankees youngster coming up, a speculative Cardinals trade piece and finally, the Braves and their master plan at shortstop.

Here’s everything you should know today.

Luis Garcia will need Tommy John surgery

The Astros have started the season 15-17 and are not exactly following up their 2022 World Series win with a compelling argument that they can repeat.

The Astros have announced that pitcher Luis Garcia is going to need Tommy John surgery, which will end his season:

As disappointing as the results have been for the Astros this year, pitching has been solid, with the second-lowest ERA in the majors (3.22) and the seventh-lowest WHIP (1.19).

Garica, though, was struggling, putting up a career-high in season-long ERA and WHIP, along with the highest walks per nine innings among the Houston starters. Those numbers will stand for the season now that his year is done, unfortunately. Here’s hoping 2024 can be a bounceback year.
