NBA Mock Draft: Who each lottery team should take with the No. 2 pick
By Ian Levy
The Mavericks’ needs are clear — 3-and-D wings to spread the floor around Luka Doncic, a vertical spacer to screen for him and potentially a secondary creator for when he’s on the bench or when the ball is swung late in the possession. The Mavericks dumped their best 3-and-D wing in the Kyrie Irving trade (Dorian Finney-Smith) and there’s a better-than-even chance that both Irving and Christian Wood will be gone next season.
If the Mavericks jumped up to No. 2, they’d likely consider a trade to see if they can land a more NBA-ready player to help right away. But if they end up keeping the pick, Miller is by far the best fit. He’s a big wing with excellent shooting touch and secondary creator upside. Depending on how else the Mavericks fill out the roster they may need a lot from him next year. But he is talented enough to go No. 2, is the best fit next to Doncic and it would be nice to see Dallas grab another young player who could actually develop with Doncic.
