Kings who won’t be back next season: 1. Richaun Holmes

After being a starter for three seasons, Richaun Holmes found himself outside of the rotation in 2022-23. The eight-year veteran set new career lows in both games played (42) and minutes per game (8.3).

In January, Yahoo’s Jake Fischer reported that the Kings made Holmes available on the trade market. I expect him to still be available this offseason.

A trade would be in the best interest of both parties. Holmes has two years, $24.9 million left on his current deal. The front office could allocate that cap space to other areas of need. Concurrently, Holmes is still an NBA-level player. In 2020-21, he averaged 14.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks. At age 29, he is in the midst of his prime. He is capable of playing a larger role for another team.

If the Kings try to make a big trade this summer, Holmes’s salary would likely be included in the deal.
