Best Cowboys moves of the offseason: 1. Re-signing Donovan Wilson

In 2022, Donovan Wilson was one of the best all-around defensive backs in the league. He led all NFL safeties in both pressures (12) and sacks (five). In pass coverage, he was elite, as well. When targeted, he gave up a completion percentage of only 51.3 percent, which was third among all safeties.

Subsequently, retaining him was a huge priority for the Cowboys this offseason. Prior to free agency, I ranked him as the No. 2 player on the team’s free agent big board.

Not only did the front office re-sign him, but they signed him to a surprisingly team-friendly contract. Wilson’s new deal is worth up to $21 million over three years. Furthermore, the Cowboys can get out of it after two years, while incurring a dead cap hit of only $3.3 million.

Remarkably, Wilson will carry a cap hit of $3.3 million this season, which ranks 39th among safeties.

This stands at one of the best value signings in the entire league.
