Braves Rumors: Jared Shuster gets another chance

The Atlanta Braves top prospect and former first-round pick Jared Shuster will receive another opportunity at the big-league level. While Shuster made the majors out of spring training — a surprise to most in the organization — he struggled in his first few starts and was sent down. Since then, though, the Braves have suffered some major injury setbacks, and their most recent move to send Kyle Wright to the 60-day injured list opened up a rotation spot.

It’s unclear if this is a rotation tryout or merely a spot start for Shuster, who has a ton of talent, but for now he will make an appearance against Texas on Tuesday night.

Per ESPN, Shuster has a 3.28 ERA in 24⅔ innings with 23 strikeouts and 14 walks in Gwinnett, and received compliments from Brian Snitker upon his call-up.

“He’s been pitching good,” Snitker said at the time.

Should that pace continue, it’ll be tough to send him back down to Triple-A, despite the litany of options Atlanta has in the minor leagues.

Atlanta struggled offensively against the Toronto Blue Jays north of the border, and suffered a series sweep as a result. There was plenty of blame to go around, from the lineup to the bullpen to even the manager, Snitker. However, just last night they hit five home runs in a romp of the Texas Rangers.

Shuster will hope for that kind of run support on Tuesday.
