Georgia football rumors: Raiola flipping another 5-star, transfer from Vols, losing out to Prime
Georgia football rumors: Former 4-star Tennessee RB Len’Neth Whitehead picks UGA
Despite losing Kenny McIntosh to the draft, the Georgia running back room remains experienced and in good shape. Kendall Milton is back in Athens and should be the 1A option to another senior, Daijun Edwards, being the 1B. Then the team clearly has high hopes for the role that sophomore Branson Robinson can play for this offense.
That should never stop a team, especially one of the Dawgs’ caliber, from trying to add more talent and depth to the roster. And if you can take a player from one of your biggest rivals, that only makes it even better.
Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs accomplished that on Tuesday as former 4-star running back and Top 200 overall recruit Len’Neth Whithead committed to Georgia in the transfer portal after initially being at Tennessee. The Athens native is coming home with three years of eligibility remaining.
The 6-foot-2, 225-pound back hasn’t played much in his college career, despite coming in as part of the 2020 recuriting class for the Vols, seeing just six games of action in 2021 and nothing else. In that limited work, though, he flashed real ability with 32 carries for 207 yards and two touchdowns.
While Whitehead is probably not likely to play a role this season, barring injuries, having him in the building and with his size, he represents a comfortable piece for the depth chart at running back in the 2023 campaign and a potentially increased role when Milton and Edwards are likely gone after this year.
