Early 53 man roster projections for the Steelers after the 2023 NFL Draft
By John Miceli
Steelers 53-man roster defensive linemen (7): Cameron Hayward, DeMarvin Leal, Keeanu Benton, Breiden Fehoko, Larry Ogunjobi, Armon Watts, Chris Wormley (currently a free agent)
This unit will again be anchored by Cameron Hayward this season and the offseason re-signing of Larry Ogunjobi, as well as the selection of Keeanu Benton in the second round, seems to round out the starting group for the Steelers defensive line. Beyond those three, the Steelers mostly have depth pieces on the current roster who don’t figure to be overly involved in the defensive gameplan.
In this article, I do add in a twist for Chris Wormley, who is not currently on the Steelers roster. Last year, an ACL injury ended Wormley’s season while he was playing on an expiring contract. This offseason, no team has yet offered him a contract.
While the Steelers made some improvements this offseason, I don’t think they improved substantially from a talent standpoint and the depth on the defensive line at this stage is mediocre. Wormley was very productive for the Steelers over the years and could figure into the Steelers gameplan upon full recovery so I’m carving out a spot here assuming the Steelers will consider bringing him back.
