Warriors biggest free-agency mistakes: 2. Derek Fisher

Fisher was coming off a 2004 Finals run with the Lakers where he was a solid point guard and floor general during the Shaq and Kobe era. The Warriors looking to add a ball-handler to their group and signed Fisher to an overpaid contract — $37 million over six years This was starting money back in those days, an annual salary of over $6 million per year.

The Warriors wanted a bigger role for Fisher and he couldn’t do that very efficiently. He ended up with the team for two years where he never averaged over 15 points per game. Golden State traded him to the Jazz for Devin Brown, Keith McLeod, and Andre Owens. The Warriors never really got anything notable from thos players, but they were able to get out of Fisher’s contract.
