14. Matt LaFleur – Green Bay Packers

You see that line above this slide? That is the clear Line of Demarcation between “not getting fired” and “I could see it happening.” Matt LaFleur is probably not on the hot seat right now. The Green Bay Packers are looking toward a new era after trading Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets. They want to see if Jordan Love can lead a very young offense to the promised land.

However, one thing that hasn’t been discussed is the fact that Matt LaFleur hasn’t had much success with the Packers relative to the expectations. He brought them to a number-one seed and an NFC Championship in his first season as coach. He matched that record and loss in the NFC Championship in Year 2. In Year 3, he was one-and-done in the playoffs, and he didn’t even take his Packers into the postseason last season.

If the Packers are atrocious this season (which seems unlikely but possible), then the management might seek a new direction. The Packers did just sign LaFluer to a contract extension last season, but we’ve seen that isn’t necessarily a guarantee he can’t be fired.

This is still really unlikely. LaFleur has done good things in Green Bay, and a down season is kind of expected. The Packers know they have to recover from the loss of a Hall of Fame QB. They’ve been here before. It will be touch and go this season, but LaFleur seems like he’s basically safe… until he isn’t.
