13. Arthur Smith – Atlanta Falcons

Many believe Arthur Smith has a hotter seat than he actually has. The Atlanta Falcons’ head coach was given a bum roster when he arrived from Tennessee, and he’s starting to see results. The offensive mind has had back-to-back seven-win seasons despite throwing Marcus Mariota out there under center. It hasn’t been better, with Desmond Ridder the likely starter this year.

The Falcons made the interesting move by going for a running back with their top-10 pick in the NFL Draft. Bijan Robinson is a great player and could change the face of the offense, but nobody is really expecting this Falcons roster to take a precipitous step forward. The NFC South is very bad, so there’s a chance the Falcons can back into the playoffs. However, does anyone really look at this season as anything besides another development year?

The Falcons are slow playing the rebuild. When moving on from Matt Ryan, the Falcons knew it would take a little time to really find its groove. Ridder is not the type of quarterback who can win championships. He can keep the ship afloat, but are they really going to clean house in the coaching staff if the Falcons win around the same again?

Nobody is in the room with Arthur Blank and GM Terry Fontenot, so it’s hard to know how hot the seat of Smith is. Maybe the heat is on because the Falcons went on a spending spree this offseason. Putting $233 million in contracts puts the spotlight on a team. Still, Smith’s seat isn’t as hot as some say.
