Reds Rumors: Outfield prospect Rece Hinds won’t survive the trade deadline

The Reds will look to be buyers at this year’s deadline. They have a few glaring needs in order to make them a playoff contender. They need to solidify the backend of the bullpen, which has been great this year but is often taxed. There is no reason to not add bullpen options, as they are often cheap. But their bigger need is at starting pitcher.

This season, the Reds have relied on youth to starter games for them. Some of these young pitchers have been great. Andrew Abbott and Hunter Greene have flashed ace potential this season. Others have been atrocious, oftentimes knocking the Reds out of the game before they have a chance to get their offense going.

The Reds have 3 or 4 starting options locked down with Greene, Abbott, and potentially a combination of Graham Ashcraft, Brandon Williamson and Nick Lodolo, pending health. That leaves a spot or two in the rotation for a trade piece.

Rece Hinds could be the perfect trade chip for a mid-tier starting pitcher at the deadline. The Reds don’t have much depth in the farm in the outfield currently, but they will bolster this through the upcoming draft and using position changes for some of their top versatile prospects. Hinds very well could see himself dealt if the Reds go all-in on a starter at the trade deadline.
