Jordan Walker isn’t the only young prospect to be excited about

Josh Jacobs at Redbird Rants is excited about Masyn Winn, and you should be, too. Lately, the youth has been the main thing Cardinals fans have to be excited about, with Jordan Walker’s return to the big leagues coming with positive results, and now Winn showing he’s got what it takes to run up the ladder.

Before you know it, Winn might get his big-league shot much like Walker did at the start of this year.

Winn joined Nootbaar for a huge offensive day on Sunday with four hits for Memphis. Unfortunately, none of his hits came in big moments, leaving three on-base with no RBI on the day, but he’s seeing the ball well and making good contact.

Jacobs, in his write-up, pointed out that President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak said a good marker for Winn to be considered, “ready”, would be if he were hitting .800 OPS. So far this season, he’s at .709. Looking solely at the last 15 days, though, he’s at .796.

He’s forcing the issue, that’s for sure.

Winn’s ascension, if it continues, probably won’t feasibly play into the Cardinals’ trade deadline plans. He’s most familiar with shortstop with some experience at second base, two positions that probably won’t clear out even if the Cardinals were to become aggressive sellers at the deadline, which might be unlikely to begin with.
