Tennessee vs. Stanford prediction and odds for College World Series (Back Vols)
By Reed Wallach
Both Stanford and Tennessee face elimination on Monday afternoon in Omaha, Nebraska after each team lost its opening game in the College World Series.
Stanford couldn’t get its offense going against the No. 1 overall seed Wake Forest, losing 3-2 on Saturday, but now get Super Regional standout Quinn Mathews on the mound on Monday after he tossed 156 pitches last round. He will face a more defensive minded Tennessee team that will lean on its pitching staff to get past an explosive Cardinal offense.
Who will keep its season alive? Let’s check out the odds:
Tennessee vs. Stanford odds, run line and total
Tennessee vs. Stanford prediction and pick
Mathews has been outstanding this season, pitching to a 3.60 ERA, and showed up when Stanford needed it most last week, but I wonder if there is any linger effects after an astonishing 156 pitches. The Vols are a disciplined team, 26th in regular season on-base percentage and more than capable at going yard with the fifth most home runs per game.
I give the offense a noted advantage over Stanford, a team that is far more reliant on the long ball (46th in OBP and 11th in homers per game) against a PAC-12 schedule. The Vols will start Chase Dollander, who pitched eight innings against Southern Mississippi in a win. I believe the SEC level pitching will prepare the Vols pitching staff for this home run driven Stanford team.
Tennessee is a slight favorite and I agree with the market, I believe the Vols will keep its season alive by way of another standout Dollander performance.
