2023 NBA Draft grade: No. 11 pick Jett Howard, Orlando Magic

11. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. F. Michigan. Jett Howard. player. 38

Grade: B-

Maybe a stretch, but the fit here is rock solid. Jett Howard is one of the best shooters in the draft. Orlando’s primary weakness is spacing — especially after selecting Anthony Black with the No. 6 pick. Howard will help rectify that problem.

The Michigan product, son of former NBA All-Star Juwan Howard, should earn immediate minutes with his volume shooting ability and advanced offensive instincts. Howard isn’t an elite self-creator, but he’s capable of aggressive moves downhill and he’s comfortable pulling up from anywhere.

Defense is the primary point of weakness as Howard lacks lateral mobility, but his size (6-foot-8) helps assuage some concerns. Orlando’s roster is filled with elite, versatile defenders, so there’s not a better place for Howard to mask his weaknesses.

From our NBA Draft Big Board:

"A 6-foot-8 wing with picturesque shooting mechanics, Jett Howard should pop for a lot of NBA teams. He can shoot off movement, he can shoot spotting up, or he can attack closeouts. His floater and in-between game are well-developed, and while he won’t create much for others, Howard profiles as an excellent complementary talent with room to grow. Theoretical positional versatility and his fiery competitive spirit boost Howard’s stock. He needs to get to a better place defensively to maximize his NBA potential."
