2023 NBA Draft trade: No. 24 pick Olivier-Maxence Prosper, Dallas Mavericks

24. 79. F. Marquette. Olivier-Maxence Prosper. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

Grade: B-

Olivier-Maxence Prosper was the big winner of the pre-draft process, going from a potential second-round pick to a green room invite with his strong combine showing and subsequent performance on the workout circuit.

The Mavs trade for this pick to add another potential contributor alongside No. 12 pick Dereck Lively. O-Max is not the most polished offensive player, but he’s an explosive straight-line driver and competent 3-point shooter at 6-foot-8.

The primary appeal, however, is defense. The Mavs’ perimeter defense was in shambles after the trade deadline. Prosper can slide his feet on the perimeter and he’s strong enough to battle bigs in the paint. His ability to switch 1-4 could lead him to emerge as Dallas’ primary wing stopper, making this a strong pick.

From our NBA Draft Big Board:

"A bouncy 6-foot-8 forward who dominated for Marquette with athletic flourishes around the rim. He flashed enough 3-point shooting to buy the jumper long term and his ability to attack the rim on straight-line drives popped in Combine scrimmages. He should be able to defend multiple positions at the next level, for good measure."
