2023 NBA Draft grade: No. 28 pick Brice Sensabaugh, Utah Jazz

Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. player. 118. G. Ohio State. Brice Sensabaugh. 28

Grade: B+

Great upside bet for the Jazz, who draft one of the best freshmen in college basketball. Brice Sensabaugh shot the lights out for Ohio State, both on uncontested and contested shots. He’s a uniquely strong guard who doesn’t get much separation, but it doesn’t always matter. He was absolute aces on tough, heavily-guarded jumpers all season.

The Jazz need guard help, especially with Collin Sexton on the trade block and Jordan Clarkson liable to leave sometime in the next year. Sensabaugh will join Keyonte George as another playmaking guard.

George can create out of the pick-and-roll and pressure the rim. Sensabaugh is more of a 3-point and mid-range scorer who struggles to get downhill. He needs to improve as a defender and passer, but the scoring ability warrants the investment this late in the first round.

From our NBA Draft Big Board:

"A bulky 6-foot-5 wing who scores with patience and precision, Brice Sensabaugh was the best scoring freshman in college basketball. He can make the net sing from 3-point land and he can leverage his strength advantage in the post. He regularly torches defenses with tough shot-making, but his defense has been deeply problematic and could hold him back at the next level. Also, will the difficult contested jumpers fall at the same rate in the NBA."
