Dak Prescott is excited for Ezekiel Elliott’s next NFL opportunity, even if it’s not with the Cowboys

Dak Prescott hopes nothing but the best for Ezekiel Elliott in his future NFL career, even if he never plays for the Dallas Cowboys ever again.

While they may no longer be Dallas Cowboys teammates, Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott remain best buds for life.

The quarterback/running back tandem were draft classmates in 2016 after stellar collegiate careers at Mississippi State and Ohio State, respectively. Together, Prescott and Elliott were pillars of this new Dallas core. While they did not win as much as their rabid fanbase hoped they would, Prescott and Elliott helped return the Cowboys to, honestly, well-deserved national prominence.

But with Elliott being released by the Cowboys, Dallas using the franchise tag on former backup running back Tony Pollard and then drafting former Kansas State star Deuce Vaughn, it is easy to come to the conclusion that Zeke has played his last down for America’s Team. He may have to find work elsewhere, but Prescott wishes nothing but the best for his former Dallas teammate.

Here is what Prescott said to The Dallas Morning News about his best friend Elliott’s future.

"“That’s my best friend. We’ll continue to work, continue to push each other. He looks great. I’m excited for whatever opportunity he has coming up, and I’m always his biggest fan.”"

Elliott still has tread on the tires, but he is no longer the bell-cow back he was coming out either.

Dak Prescott cannot wait to see what Ezekiel Elliott’s next NFL chapter looks like

A lot has changed over the course of the offseason, but I still contend that the best landing spot for Elliott on the open market would have to be the Cincinnati Bengals. They are a Super Bowl contender who may need a spark at the running back position to complement its elite receiving corps. Plus, you can never overlook former Ohio State stars playing for the Bengals or Cleveland.

While there is still a chance Elliott could return to Dallas, I wouldn’t count on it. It would have to be at a massive hometown discount. Plus, the Cowboys need to get their money’s worth out of Pollard, as well as probably wanting to see what Vaughn can do at the professional level. Either way, somebody will like what Elliott is all about and will bring him in for a visit to possibly sign him.

He may be approaching 30-years-old, but in the right system, Elliott can still be a productive player as a complementary back of sorts. His ability to pass protect will always be of value in this league. Though he certainly lacks the explosiveness he had coming out of Ohio State, Elliott remains a savvy player worth keeping and eye on. The NFL is a business, but he should be playing.

Look for Prescott to support Elliott on whatever team he plays for, even if it is not the Cowboys.
