In today’s random basketball news, 76ers signing Patrick Beverley caught wind of a fan sporting his face on an outfit and immediately gave a thumbs-up.

Put Patrick Beverley’s face on a shirt… said no one ever. Much less a Hawaiian shirt.

But thanks to the powers of the internet and presumably a handy custom T-shirt website, one fan got creative and donned a very strange outfit to a Summer League game.

It’s basically your generic Hawaiian shirt with colorful floral prints, and then there’s, well, blown-up images of Beverley’s face scattered through the flowers. It’s precisely as odd as described.

The former Lakers and Bulls player just finalized a one-year deal with the Philadelphia 76ers last week; that news coupled with this, er, interesting shirt likely gave Beverley a lot to smile about. Beverley ended up reaching out through Twitter to try and get the fan’s information and send him a free ticket to game in his hometown.

Now, basketball players are no stranger to fashion. Plenty of stars have made waves in that arena this past season, with the iconic gameday fits of Kyle Kuzma, Russell Westbrook, and Dillon Brooks immediately jumping out as images that shall never be forgotten. Many athletes express themselves through fashion, and basketball players in particular tend to get a little freaky with it sometimes.

For a basketball fan to go outside the box — that’s a little different. And out of all NBA players, you pick Beverley?

The 35-year-old has made a career out of being an instigator, drawing infectious but often annoying trash-talking energy to every single one of the five teams he’s played on so far. Last season, he was rather unceremoniously dumped by the Lakers and ended up on the Bulls; he averaged 6.2 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists while shooting over 30 percent from 3-point range.

The one-time All-Defensive Team first-team player may have gotten a little extra ego boost from seeing his fan’s outfit choice this summer, and if the fan’s ulterior motive was to get Beverley’s attention, it definitely paid off.
