Auston Matthews is a star on the ice, and he’s also a beast at NHL video games…especially when he plays against his pal, Justin Bieber.

Pop singer Justin Bieber’s love for hockey is no secret. The long-time Toronto Maple Leafs fan has become good friends with Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews over the years. What fun things do the pals do together? Apparently, they don’t play the NHL video game series after their first game together when Matthews wiped the floor with Bieber.

It’s no surprise to find out that Matthews is a beast at the NHL video game. The 2016 first-overall draft pick is currently one of the best players in the NHL. He scored 60 goals during the 2021-22 season and 40 goals during the 2022-23 season.

The elite forward is heading into his last season under contract with the Leafs. He could see a big payday with an extension, although there’s speculation he’ll take a discount to help Toronto build around him.

Auston Matthews crushed Justin Bieber in NHL video game

In a video posted by Sportsnet, Matthews recently revealed he’s played “Chel” with Bieber before, hockey slang for the NHL video game series. The current iteration of the game is NHL23.

Matthews knows his story about matching up with Bieber in the NHL video game is a great one. He smirked as he explained, “I kinda waxed him, and we haven’t played since.” Why not? When they hit the popular NHL video game together, Matthews played so well that Bieber “rage quit.”

Ever since then, Bieber doesn’t like Matthews bringing it up. Matthews would love to play him again if Bieber’s up for it. At the end of the video, he urged Bieber to “come and find me, and we’ll get this rematch going.”

Now that he’s been called out, Bieber might feel the heat to show up for a rematch. He has reason to fear a rematch. If Matthews is as good at the video game as he is on the actual ice, he’s probably unbeatable.

If the pals do have that rematch, maybe they should also throw in an activity that’s up Bieber’s alley. Perhaps a karaoke night? If Bieber squares up for NHL23, Matthews could sing some Justin Bieber tunes. It’s only fair they play to Bieber’s strengths, too.

Bieber probably isn’t too happy Matthews spilled the beans on the video game shellacking. Is it too late now to say sorry for putting his bud on blast? Will this rematch go down? Never say never, Beliebers.
