NFC rival calls Eagles All-Pro ‘overhyped’ in new bulletin board material
One NFC executive accused Eagles offensive lineman Lane Johnson of being overhyped, giving the All-Pro plenty of motivation for 2023.
Annoymous NFC executives say the darndest things.
It’s well established that Lane Johnson is one of the best offensive linemen in the NFL. He has been for years now with injuries alone holding him back.
But apparently not everyone agrees about the value of the Eagles tackle.
Johnson ranked No. 4 in ESPN’s ranking of the Top 10 offensive tackles going into 2023, as voted by executives, coaches and scouts. His highest rating was second but someone actually left him off their Top 10.
Specifically, an unnamed NFC executive “believes Johnson is overhyped and plays in a run-pass-option offense that helps him limit sacks.”
“He gets a lot of credit for being noisy and playing on a good team,” the anonymous exec said.
NFC executive gave Eagles tackle Lane Johnson bulletin board material to last 2023
Well that exec is silly. You don’t get voted an All-Pro twice, under two different coaching staffs, by pulling the wool over the eyes of evaluators and feasting just because of a system. The man hasn’t given up a sack since 2020. That’s not the result of the run-pass-option.
That executive’s perspective has a touch of bitterness to it. Unfortunately, we don’t know who it is or why they have such a gripe with Johnson.
In any case, Johnson is set up to get the last laugh. He is returning for his 11th season in the league with a squad capable of winning the Super Bowl. They came close last season. It’s all about finishing in 2023.
Eagles training camp is scheduled to begin soon with veterans reporting on July 27. The Philadelphia offense can have a good laugh about that NFC executive when they get together then.
Johnson wasn’t the only Eagles lineman named in that ranking. Jordan Mailata came in just behind his teammate at No. 5.
