Tiger Woods won The Open Championship in 2006 at Royal Liverpool, but will golf’s GOAT be playing at the British Open in 2023?

For nearly three decades now, Tiger Woods has been an indelible figure in the world of golf. And over his near-unmatched career of success, there are three Claret Jugs that he’s captured at The Open Championship.

Incidentally, his most recent British Open win came back in 2006, completing back-to-back victories at the major championship, when it was played at Royal Liverpool. Now, the 2023 Open Championship is heading back to that venue, the place where Rory McIlroy also captured a Claret Jug with a win in 2014.

So as the golf world descends upon Hoylake once again, fans are wondering if Tiger Woods will be playing the 2023 Open Championship at Royal Liverpool.

Is Tiger Woods playing The Open Championship at Royal Liverpool?

No, Tiger Woods is unfortunately not playing The Open Championship this year.

After playing in the wet, rainy Masters when Tiger was clearly in quite a bit of pain, it was announced that he’d undergone a pretty substantial ankle surgery to help deal with the pain that has stemmed from the injuries related to his 2021 car accident.

Since The Masters, Woods has not played in a single tournament, including missing both the PGA Championship and US Open as well.

We do not have any real indication as to when Tiger will return to competitive professional golf after the surgery. At 47 years old, it’s hard to imagine that the recovery will be quick. And though he won’t be at Royal Liverpool, every golf fan is waiting anxiously but patiently for him to get about out there and tee it up again.
