Jordan Montgomery could find his way to Orioles at the trade deadline

I truly think that the Yankees should reunite with Jordan Montgomery at this year’s trade deadline. While as of late the offense has been the principal issue in the Bronx, one has to assume that when Aaron Judge returns to the lineup, all bets are off and bats will start making contact.

It’s hard to express exactly why, but the guy just has a tendency to lift everyone around him on the offensive side of things.

Assuming the offense figures itself out, the next most-likely issue to cause a catastrophic implosion is the starting pitching. The starting staff is filled with recognizable names and plenty of talent, but it’s also been a year defined by boom or bust for the starters.

Domingo German had earned eight and seven runs in his two starts prior to throwing a perfect game.

Nestor Cortes’s ERA has gone up by 2.72 compared to last year, his WHIP has gone up 0.376.

Luis Severino has lost it completely.

We really trust this starting staff? I don’t think so.

Montgomery knows the team well — New York traded him to St. Louis last year to receive Harrison Bader — and has proven he can be a reliable starter under the pressure of the pinstripes already. Yankees fans hated seeing him go, and getting him back in his contract season would be a strong addition to the starting rotation as the postseason draws near and the Yankees claw away at a hopeful Wild Card spot.

Unfortunately, the Orioles might pop in and snatch him up instead. Recent rumors suggest the Yankees might prefer John Flaherty from the Cardinals staff.

That’s the wrong guy, in my honest opinion. Get Monty back to the Bronx.
