MLB Rumors: Giants named as Justin Verlander trade destination
Despite Justin Verlander himself throwing cold water on trade rumors, many pundits are still theorizing the veteran ace gets moved this summer with the Mets trailing the Braves substantially in the NL East.
In particular, the San Francisco Giants enter the mix as potential Verlander suitors. Having gone after high-profile names like Aaron Judge and Carlos Correa last offseason, the organization may be ready to make a big splash with a massive albeit waning star like Verlander.
In 2023, Verlander has a 3.47 ERA in 14 starts for the NY Mets and hasn’t looked like his vintage All-Star self. He signed a two-year deal and has a no-trade clause, so any move would be contingent on him waiving that clause and presumably working with New York to find a fair offer.
What Verlander has said and what he will actually do at the trade deadline could differ.
