Steelers starter who could get benched No. 2: Dan Moore Jr.

Left tackle Dan Moore Jr. has started every game except for one in the last two seasons. He’s the guy to beat.

But after last year’s performance, it shouldn’t be that difficult to supplant him.

Moore allowed seven sacks and ten quarterback hits in 2022. As Kenny Pickett’s blindside protector, he’ll have to do much better this season.

Enter the Steelers’ 2023 first-rounder, Broderick Jones. Pittsburgh moved up to draft him in April and have since set Gothic arch-high expectations for the 22-year-old: become the offensive line’s durable anchor for years to come.

The Steelers are in no rush to roll out Jones amid a semi-rebuilding era, but if Jones looks the part of a Day 1 starter in camp, why not play him? He could certainly use the experience, having only 19 starts back at Georgia.

Pittsburgh is going to face some experienced and daunting pass-rushers in the AFC North (Garrett, Hendrickson), so there’s a case for not throwing Jones into the lion’s den. On the flip side, this is a pivotal developmental year for Kenny Pickett, and the Steelers should equip him with the best tools to succeed. That could mean Dan Moore out, Broderick Jones in.
