Is Aaron Rodgers going to play for the Jets in the Hall of Fame Game against the Browns tonight?

The New York Jets are set to play the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night in the 2023 Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio, and the question everybody is asking is whether Aaron Rodgers will suit up.

The better question is: Does Robert Saleh want to risk losing his head if he plays Rodgers and Rodgers gets hurt during the game? No, no he does not.

According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, Aaron Rodgers will not be playing on Thursday. MetLife’s favorite punching bag, Zach Wilson, will be playing instead. Behind Wilson, Tim Boyle and Chris Streveler are the second- and third-string quarterbacks listed on the depth chart.

Technically, the Jets’ Aaron Rodgers era begins tonight, but the only debut the ex-Packers quarterback will be making is on the television screen.

Aaron Rodgers delays Jets debut, won’t play in Hall of Fame Game vs. Browns

As stated by Jets coach Robert Saleh, the Jets aren’t planning to play any of their starters this game.

In true anti-Brett Favre fashion, Aaron Rodgers has spoken highly about Wilson ahead of the game and hopes the 2021 second-overall pick can take the first step in his road to redemption in 2023.

Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson won’t be taking the field either; Kellen Mond will play in his stead.

For those desperate, football-starved fans itching to hear the ASMR slam of pads and Mike Tirico’s and Cris Collinsworth’s commentary, a low-stakes exhibition match like the Hall of Fame Game will satisfy the most basic, primal cravings. For those waiting to see Rodgers take his first snap in a Jets uniform, they may have to wait until preseason. Even then, the chances are slim: Rodgers apparently hasn’t played in a preseason game since 2018.

The 2023 NFL Hall of Fame Game is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 3. It will air on NBC at 8 p.m. ET. and stream on Peacock.
