Red Sox rumors: Kyle Barraclough’s heartwarming story may come to an end with Boston this month

Red Sox reliever Kyle Barraclough has a truly heartwarming story filled with grit and perseverance. The righty began the season in Indy Ball, where he threw 18 dominant innings of 2-run baseball for the High Point Rockers in the Atlantic League. After that, he received a call from the Red Sox and was promptly signed and then moved to the Red Sox Triple-A roster in Worcester.

Barraclough was moved to a starter, where he started seven games and appeared in egiht for the Worcester Red Sox. It would be a disservice to say that he was dominant. In fact, he was much more than that. He proceeded to go 7-0 on the mound, holding a 2.57 ERA in 42 innings. The call to return to the major leagues came last week, but he’s yet to appear in a game for Boston.

But as much as it would be incredible for him to stick in Boston, the reality just isn’t so certain. If he can continue his incredible run this year, he could find himself a place in the Boston bullpen, but with Chris Sale scheduled to return to make his next start, somebody will need to be optioned to Triple-A.

Barraclough has options on his contract, and he seems like the most likely guy to go back down, maybe before he even gets a chance to prove himself at the major league level in 2023.
