Red Sox rumors: Top prospect Nick Robertson may not be ready for the MLB just yet

One of the Red Sox top 30 prospects, Nick Robertson — who was acquired in the Kiké Hernandez trade — has bounced back and forth from Triple-A to the big leagues over the course of the season, with most of this being with the Dodgers before his trade to Boston.

He was recently moved back to Triple-A this week, but it should be fully expected to see him back up with Boston in the next week or two because of his contract flexibility. However, he likely isn’t ready for the big leagues just yet and it would be a risky decision on the Red Sox to keep him with the major league squad down the stretch of games with playoff implications.

Boston is likely to enter September with their bullpen of proven guys rather than younger, high-potential prospects like Robertson. With a call back up to Boston likely coming in the next week or so, he’ll have a few weeks to prove himself with the MLB roster, but that’ll likely be in vain.

Nick Robertson will more than likely play a key part in the future of the Red Sox bullpen. But they are looking to win games right now in order to make a playoff push and they would be better suited for that with more experienced and proven guys in the bullpen.
