Darrel Williams vs. Jerick McKinnon: Who Will Lead Chiefs With Clyde Edwards-Helaire Out?
By Peter Dewey
The Kansas City Chiefs are reeling at 2-3 after another poor defensive effort against the Buffalo Bills in Week 5, but they did catch a break in the injury department.
Running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire appeared to suffer a serious knee injury when he was helped off the field in Sunday night’s game, but the Chiefs received some good news today.
Edwards-Helaire sustained an MCL sprain, and while he will miss a few weeks, his season isn’t over.
The Chiefs turned to Darrel Williams and Jerick McKinnon when Edwards-Helaire went down, and it seems clear that Williams is the player that bettors and fantasy players should target next week when the Chiefs take on the Washington Football Team in Week 6.
Kansas City is a 6.5-point favorite against Washington at WynnBET as it looks to get back to .500 on the season.
Darrel Williams vs. Jerick McKinnon Comparison
After Edwards-Helaire went down in Week 5, Williams was clearly the favorite back in the Kansas City offense.
He handled six of the seven opportunities on Sunday night, and Williams has 10 or more targets and carries in three consecutive games.
McKinnon, who has just one carry all season, will likely have a role in the passing game, but Williams is the player to target against Washington.
Over the past three weeks, Williams has racked up 97 rushing yards on 22 carries to go with seven catches (on 10 targets) for 45 yards. He also scored a rushing touchdown.
The Chiefs need to get back on track, and Williams seems perfect to fit in Edwards-Helaire’s role, even if he won’t be as effective. CEH had run for over 100 yards in back-to-back weeks before getting injured against Buffalo.
