Maybe I’m drinking the kool-aid a little too soon. Maybe the Minnesota Vikings are just going to be a disappointment again, so I shouldn’t put much stock into Week 1, but I like the Cincinnati Bengals.

They looked good against the Vikings, winning in overtime, which gives me hope they could surpass their win total projection. WynnBET has the Bengals win total line at 6.5, with the under (-130) favoring the over (+110). Yet, I think Cincinnati could hit the over.

Cincinnati was 1-5-1 in games decided by one score last year. With the win against the Vikings, they’ve already tied their win mark from last year. Also, the Bengals won four games in 2020. Joe Burrow is healthy again, an extra game is on the schedule and the offense is going to have serious big play potential every week.

One big thing for the Bengals is that Ja’Marr Chase was finally catching passes. The No. 5 overall pick had issues in the preseason with drops, but looked comfortable in Week 1.

The Bengals have the same issues as last year, with the offensive line still not protecting Burrow as a franchise quarterback should be. Once they can get the line situated, expect Cincinnati to become a real contender.

They have matchups this season against the Jaguars, Jets and Lions, giving them several winnable games along the way. Along with those basement-dwellers, Cincinnati could steal a few games inside the division.

Week 2 will be a good test for the Bengals, as they travel to Chicago to face the Bears. I’m taking the Bengals as my upset pick this week. If they can start off 2-0, that would put them on a great path to finishing above their 6.5 projection.
