Justin Jefferson and Kirk Cousins Being Disrespected in Week 1 Prop vs. Bengals
By Peter Dewey
If you’re excited for some NFL Week 1 props, WynnBET has released a ton of new props for each matchup, with one including dueling quarterback and receiver combinations to put up the most passing and receiving yards.
For the Minnesota Vikings and Cincinnati Bengals matchup, Joe Burrow and rookie Ja’Marr Chase are pitted against Kirk Cousins and Justin Jefferson with Burrow and Chase set as -120 favorites.
I can’t help but wonder how Jefferson and Cousins are getting this much disrespect, especially after the duo hooked up for 1,400 or Cousins’ 4,265 passing yards last season. Not only that, but the uncertainty around Burrow and Chase has me siding with Jefferson and Cousins at +100 odds.
Burrow is coming off a torn ACL last season, and while he will be good to go in Week 1, he’s still going to have to get back to playing in games after limited preseason action. As much as I’m not a fan of Cousins, he has the higher floor between these two players considering he threw for 220 or more yards in each of his last nine games in 2020.
Chase is the bigger concern, as he caught just one of his five targets in the preseason, dropping the other four. Only two rookie wide receivers (Terry McLaurin and Marquise Brown in 2019) have finished Week 1 in the top 30 in receiving yards since 2018.
Chase’s struggles in the preseason, and the fact that he hasn’t played in a game that counted since the 2019 National Championship Game, makes him a risky pick to help Burrow out in this prop.
Jefferson, who started the 2020 season slowly in his rookie year, should be good to go from his AC joint sprain that he suffered this offseason. Over his last eight games of the 2020 campaign, Jefferson topped 100 yards receiving four times and had over 70 receiving yards in seven of those eight contests.
He’s quickly become one of the league’s best receivers and the focal point of the Vikings’ passing offense. If Cousins has a big game, you can bet that Jefferson will be heavily involved. I’m not sure the same can be said for Burrow and Chase, as Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd have outplayed the rookie this offseason.
The Vikings’ duo is getting a little disrespect in this prop, and I’ll gladly take them at +100 odds.
