As we prepare for kickoff of the NFL Week 5 slate, it’s always interesting to look at what teams are receiving the majority of the bets.

Keep in mind, that just because a team is getting the large majority of bets, that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s a good pick. In fact, many people would argue the opposite. “Fading the public” is a popular betting strategy among bettors as well where people will bet against the teams that are receiving the most public action.

NFL Week 5 Games Receiving the Most Lopsided Action

Here are the top three bets today that are receiving the most lopsided action when it comes to total money wagered, also known as the “handle”.

  • New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys OVER 52 (91.2%)
  • Las Vegas Raiders -5.5 vs. Chicago Bears (89.8%)
  • Tennessee Titans -5.5 vs. Jacksonville Jaguars (88.7%)

The OVER is generally a popular bet among sports bettors, but that seems to be especially the case for today’s Giants versus Cowboys game. The opening total was set at 50, but it's since been moved up to 52 due to the large percentage of money coming in on the OVER. Only 7.8% of the money bet on the total in this game is on the UNDER.

No spread in the NFL is receiving as much lopsided action today as the Raiders against the Bears. The spread originally opened at 4.5, but the Raiders have since been moved up to 5.5-point favorites. The Bears are receiving only 10.2% of the spread money in this game.

It’s no surprise that people are betting on the Jaguars this week after the news about Urban Meyer broke early in the week. A team that already has one of the worst rosters in the NFL, paired with a divided locker room and a coach that nobody takes seriously, is not a good recipe.
