There are some terrific pitching matchups in Major League Baseball on Wednesday, and our crew of Joe Summers, Reed Wallach, Iain MacMillan and Peter Dewey are looking at a few of them in their game previews today.

Here are some of their favorite picks, with all odds via WynnBET:

San Francisco Giants vs New York Mets Prediction and Pick

I'll be honest, I don't think I ever remember seeing a total at 6.5. But that should tell you how good these pitchers are and how much respect they garner across the industry. I mean, just look at Rodón's profile:

Over his last seven starts dating back to last season, Rodón has a 1.80 era across 40 innings. Somehow, Bassitt has been even better. In his last eight starts, he's amassed a 1.38 ERA.

Those numbers are absolutely ridiculous, and while the Mets rank sixth in the MLB in OPS this year,
Rodón will have the league's best bullpen backing him up if things go awry.

The Giants have scored more than four runs just twice in their last 10 and I don't see them getting to Bassitt. A total of 6.5 does scare me a bit, but I love the first five innings under that WynnBET has made available. You can get under 3.5 total runs in the first five innings at -115 and that's my favorite play today.

But you can also grab the No Run First Inning at -155 and even though that's a steep price, it's well worth paying. Since 2019, the NRFI is 40-9 when Bassitt is a favorite, and it's 13-3 in Rodón's last 16 coming off a win.

I'm counting on both pitchers to continue their dominance and can't wait for the pitching duel that'll unfold today.

Pick: First Five Innings Under 3.5 Runs (-115) and First Inning Under 0.5 Runs (-155) -- Joe Summers

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Chicago Cubs Prediction and Pick

This matchup seems to be underrating the Rays, who will be giving the ball to a more than capable right hander in Drew Rasmussen. While his strikeout rate is down this season, only five per nine innings which is more than two punch outs from last season, this Cubs team has been heavily reliant on home runs which is unsustainable.

Rasmussen is typically a ground ball pitcher and is due for some regression in that department. He has only generated a ground ball on a third of the balls put in play, but is typically closer to half. With the Cubs irregular home run hitting, and Rasmussen's likelihood of getting more contact on the ground is making them a bit undervalued given the historical sample size.

I think the Rays starter and the far superior bullpen shows up at Wrigley Field while Stroman's iffy control this season (four walks through nine innings so far) can prove costly against the 11th best team in terms of on-base percentage.

LEAN: Rays -110, UNDER 9 -- Reed Wallach

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Miami Marlins Prediction and Pick

Miles Mikolas has got off to a hot start this season, sporting a 2.61 ERA and a 1.161 WHIP through his first two starts. Not only has he been playing well, but the Cardinals bullpen has been amongst the best in the Majors this season, ranking third in bullpen ERA at 1.95.

That means the Marlins are going to be have to be firing on all cylinders if they want to hang with St. Louis today, but their offense has been average at best so far this season. They rank 13th in batting average at .239.

The Cardinals have the advantage in this game both offensively and defensively, so there's no reason not to back them as +117 underdogs today.

Pick: Cardinals +117 -- Iain MacMillan

New York Yankees vs. Detroit Tigers Prediction and Pick

These are two of the worst offenses in baseball through the first few weeks of the season. The Yankees are averaging just 3.09 runs per game, but the Tigers are somehow worse, averaging 3.00 runs per game.

Severino was magnificent in his last start, tossing five innings of two-hit ball against the Toronto Blue Jays, and I’d expect a similar performance against a lesser Tigers team.

The problem is the Yankees can’t score, and they needed a missed pop up to push across two runs in Tuesday’s game.

For that reason, I’ll lean with the under until one of these teams starts hitting.

Lean: UNDER 7.5 (-110) -- Peter Dewey
