Why You Shouldn't Bet on the Los Angeles Dodgers
By Peter Dewey
As we inch closer to the MLB playoffs, the Los Angeles Dodgers look like a good team, but are they a great one?
The age-old saying goes, good teams win, but great teams cover, and by using that logic the Dodgers have been far from great this season. They may have the second-best record in baseball, but if you bet on the Dodgers every game this season, you’d actually be down -3.48 units.
Los Angeles is only 74-78 on the run line this season, but it sports a 97-55 record straight up. Part of this has to do with the fact that the Dodgers are almost always the favorite, and they had a crazy streak of being the favorite snapped earlier this season.
Unfortunately for Los Angeles’ playoff hopes, the best team in baseball at the moment is the San Francisco Giants, who happen to also play in the National League West. That means the Dodgers could find themselves competing in the wild card game if they can’t overtake the Giants over the final weeks of the season.
Despite that, WynnBET Sportsbook still has the Dodgers as the favorite to win the World Series this season at +275 odds. The Giants are fourth on the list at +800.
Los Angeles made a major splash at the trade deadline, acquiring Max Scherzer and Trea Turner from the Washington Nationals to help their playoff berth. That, coupled with the return of Clayton Kershaw from the injured list, has made the Dodgers extremely dangerous as they enter the postseason.
The defending champs still have value at +275, but right now you’re betting on them taking the wild card and beating the Giants in the NLDS without home field advantage on a run in the playoffs. It’s not an ideal scenario, but if anyone can get it done it may be this Dodgers team that has gone to the World Series in three of the last four seasons.
Are the Dodgers worth a bet as World Series favorites? Make your pick at WynnBET!
