Earlier on Saturday it was reported that former Atlanta Falcons cornerback Brent Grimes was visiting the Cleveland Browns and that there might be some interest in pursuing a relationship between the two. Grimes also visited the Miami Dolphins over the weekend but a source close to Grimes told the Palm Beach Post that not only is Grimes not considering either the Dolphins or Browns, but he’s not considering any team at this point in free agency.

"A source close to former Atlanta cornerback Brent Grimes, who visited the Dolphins on Friday, said “there was no expectation of Brent signing with Miami or any other team at this time.”"

It shouldn’t come as a giant surprise that Grimes isn’t looking at any teams at the moment, as he’s still recovering from tearing his Achilles back in September of last year and hasn’t played a down since. Grimes may simply not be close to being 100 percent healthy again, and he’s clearly not interested in coming back too soon.

What he’s also not interested in is taking the highest contract available to him just to get a pay check. Grimes was one of the better cornerbacks in the league when he was healthy in Atlanta, but he’s likely not hearing numbers that make him happy due to teams getting scared off by the the Achilles tear he’s recovering from.

This isn’t to say Grimes will sit out another season, but he may simply be holding out until later in the offseason when he’s healthier and can work out for teams at a higher level more close to what he’s used to playing at on Sunday’s. He’s not a free agent signee right now, but he may fly off the market come May or June when teams are starting to prepare their strategies for a 2012 run at a Super Bowl.
