Some tragic news to report this morning as an elevator subcontractor working on the San Francisco 49ers new stadium has died.

The details about the situation are sketchy, but according to a report, a counter-weight fell on the worker.

Per Bob Redell of NBC Bay Area:

"Worker fell down elevator shaft at 49ers stadium accordion to an electrician working on the site"

The accident was reported at around 6:45 AM local time and happened on what will be the east side of the stadium once construction is complete.

Reports state that workers have been asked to leave the site for the day as construction has obviously been canceled.

Levi’s Stadium, which is set to open in the Fall of 2014 cost 1.2 billion dollars to construct and will play host to Super Bowl 50 in 2016.
