Both the New York Jets organization and their fans have read the Mark Sanchez book far too many times – they don’t need another chapter and it’s unlikely they’ll get one, assuming rookie Geno Smith doesn’t run into a wall during training camp.

According to the New York Daily News, unless Smith has a horrific camp (which so far looks nearly impossible), the former West Virginia talent will be the New York Jets starting quarterback when the season begins:

"In fact, Smith really isn’t even competing against Sanchez. The rookie will be the Jets starter this season when the organization believes that he’s ready. General manager John Idzik must find out if Smith can be a franchise quarterback at some point this season before determining whether or not to select a signal-caller in next year’s draft.Idzik admittedly will have a “pretty big role” in deciding the Week 1 quarterback, but there’s no reason to unnecessarily accelerate Smith’s learning process.Make no mistake: Smith will be the starter against the Buccaneers on Sept. 8 if he’s sharp in the preseason. Sanchez’s performance, rightly or wrongly, won’t matter."
